“With a cry and a flourish, Raven cast the bones into the air and let them fall where they may. Tucking her wings behind her back, she strutted around the bones, studying them from every angle, listening carefully, noting the pattern they made and the shape of the space between them. Raven circled the bones until she knew in the core of her being that she had read the bones properly. The hallowed bones of the matriarchs had come together to show her the way to reach the council of the ancestors of all the creatures, a map to the spirit world where the ancestral souls of the web awaited her presence.”
